What is Objective Alignment?

Simply put, Objective Alignment allows Objectives to be connected and thus, Goals can contribute to the progression of a Main Objective, also known as a Parent Objective.

For example, if the Goal is set to be "Sales Team must make 100 Sales by the end of October", you can use this feature to assign Child Objectives to contribute towards the Parent Objective. Using this knowledge, you would be able to set up Child Objectives such as, "US Sales Team must make 70 sales by end of October" and another one "UK Sales Team must make 30 sales by end of October".

The Main Objective is now supported by two Child Objectives. Once one of them is completed, the Main Objective will be considered 50% completed, as one of the two Objectives has been completed.

How do I enable Objective Alignment?

You can enable Objective Alignment in the settings area for Goals & Objectives. First you must navigate to Admin > Settings > Goals.

Once the Goals & Objectives feature is enabled, you will see the option for Objective Alignment. Turning this on will enable the feature across the whole platform.

Note that Objective Alignment is only supported for Public Goals. If a Goal is created as Private it CANNOT contribute to the progress of another Goal.

How to use Objective Alignment

First, you must navigate to the Objectives page, once there you will see this page below:

Regardless of how you access Goals & Objectives, you can filter and see the different Goals of the company as a whole. You can filter by selecting "Explore all Goals" and then "Filter".

If you already have Goals here, you can click any of them to edit, otherwise, click New objective.

Once you do so, you will see the option to "Add parent". Clicking this will bring up all the other Objectives that you have access to in the platform.

Selecting the Objective you would like to contribute towards will bring up another page that will look like this:

Here, you can see a preview of the Parent Objective, and the Alignment settings. By clicking the toggle, you will opt-in to Contribute to progress. Once that is toggled on, you can click "Add parent". Doing so will add the selected Objective as the Parent Objective.

You can then scroll down and save changes. Once it is saved, the Parent Objective will be fully linked and you can start to contribute towards the main Objective!

How to use Weighted Goals

When Objective Alignment is enabled, you will also be able to allocate Weights to Key Results and Child Goals.

Once a new Objective is created, you must click to open the Objective and click the button Edit weights just above the Key Result(s).

You will have the option to assign Weights to the Key Results of an Objective to indicate the relative importance of each Key Result. The Key Results can carry different Weights as long as their total add up to 100%.

You can also assign Weights to Child Goals supporting a main Objective (Parent). By assigning different Weights to Key Results and/or Child Goals, teams can clearly signal which Objectives most directly support the overall company strategy.

IMPORTANT! If the Weights of Key Results and Child Goals do not amount to 100%, an alert message will be shown in the top of the modal informing the user to adjust the values in order to be able to proceed.
