How to Create an Objective

To create an Objective, first, you must navigate to the Goals & Objectives area in your platform. You can find that via the:

  1. For You space

  2. Manager space

Once there, you should see this screen:

Here you can see a few different things. In this case, since we accessed the Objectives page from the For You space, we will see the Objectives that are assigned to you.

If we were to access this same page from the Manager space, you would see the same page but with different applied filters.

Once you have navigated to the Objectives page, you will see the button to create a "New Objective", clicking this button will bring up this modal:

In this area, you must provide the needed information to create the Objective.

The Objective describes the goal, while the Key Results describe how we measure the Goal.

What is your Objective? - Just a short title/summary of what you would like to achieve.

  1. Description (optional) - Provide a more detailed description of the objective.

  2. Who is the Owner? - Who is the one creating the Objective? (This is locked to the current user unless you are a Manager)

  3. Select an Objective Type

    1. Individual Goals - Goals that benefit the company.

    2. Group Goals (Manager only) - Goals that benefit the Group

    3. Company Goals (Manager only) - Goals that everyone in the company can see and work towards.

    4. Personal Goals - Goals that benefit you as an employee. (These are the only Goals that are hidden and only viewable by the creator and the Manager)

  4. Key Results - These are milestone steps/tasks that assigned users update as they complete them.

  5. Start and Due date - Provide the Start and Due date for the Objective you would like to complete.

  6. Privacy Settings - Set the privacy settings of the Goal to be either Public or Private.

Once you have properly provided the information, click "Create Objective". This will create a new Objective and it will appear as:

💡Tips for creating Objectives:

Objectives are a direction or focus area, like driving growth, change or innovation. They should be written as an inspirational statement, without any numbers! Still motivate, guide, and provide enough clarity

🧙‍♂️Try starting your Objective using a verb. For example: "Improve cross-team collaboration".

How to Edit Existing Goals

Editing an existing goal is quite simple! First, navigate to either the For You or the Manager Space. Find the Goal you would like to edit and click on it. In the top right of the window that pops up will be an edit button. From here you can edit the Goal however you need.

Down below the editing, you will also see the Activity log. The Activity log keep track of all changes made to the goal by anyone.

Key Results

Key Results are a major part of the OKR system. Essentially, they are milestones that you, the company, team, or organization need to meet to complete the Objective.

Objectives aim to be fairly general statements with Key Results being the hard metrics/data behind the Objective.

For example, if the Objective is to "Increase Sales Revenue", you would set Key Results up something similar to:

Key Result 1: Create 150 more leads by the end of the fiscal year.

Key Result 2: Close deals

When creating a new Goal with Key Results, you have the option to measure the Key Results with a few different options:

  1. Binary

    1. Incomplete/Completed

    2. False/True

    3. No/Yes

    4. Fail/Pass

    5. Not Achieved/Achieved

    6. Custom

  2. Number

    1. Start

    2. Target

  3. Currency

    1. Select a currency and a target

  4. Percent

    1. Select a start and target percentage

💡Tips for Key Results:

Each Objective should have 3-5 Key Results to helps measure the realization of your Objective.

Key Results should be

  • quantifiable and measurable

  • including a start and target value

  • tracked and updated on a regular basis

🧙‍♂️Key Results are not KPIs, they are measurable outcomes achieved by a specific set of Initiatives.
