What are Goal Cycles and where can I find them?

Goal Cycles allows you to organize performance goals into different sections, based on timeframes or purpose, enabling better goal tracking, structured planning and better alignments with organizational needs.

You can find your Goal Cycles in Admin > Performance > Goals.

Here, you can see an overview of existing Goal Cycles, as well as create new ones. To create a new Goal Cycle, click the New button in the top right corner.

Once you add a Title and a Start/End date, click Confirm. This will create a Cycle (almost like a container for all your goals) that you can add Goals into. Once created, you can search for the Cycle, and see the Start date, End date, Status of the Cycle, and the creator's name and when it was created.

Clicking the three dots will show you the following options:

It is important to note that if you choose to Archive a Cycle, that Goal Cycle will be hidden on the Goals page for users and Managers. Also, archived Goal Cycles will be unavailable to use when creating a new Goal.

How do I add Goals into Goal Cycles?

Once you create a Goal Cycle, you can navigate to Teams & People > Goals. Here, you can see all your Goal Cycles, as well as the normal filtering options. Click New, this will bring up the Goal Creation menu.

Here, you can create a Goal as you normally would, and now be able to add the Goal to a specific Goal Cycle. Once you create a Goal and add it to a Goal Cycle, you can see it on the person/group that you created it for.

NB! The Goal type Personal is not available in Goal Cycles, meaning if you create a Personal Goal, the Goal Cycle dropdown will not be visible.

However, when a Personal Goal is created, it will automatically be grouped into a Goal segment named "Personal goals". This grouping of Personal Goals will appear similar to a Goal Cycle, but it is not subject to be edited or managed in Admin > Performance > Goals.

Please keep in mind that if you edit a Goal belonging to an Archived Cycle and select a different Goal Cycle, it will be irreversible, and you will not be able to undo it.

Cycles can have 4 statuses:

  • Not started (Start date is in the future)

    • Can be selected when creating new Goals or editing existing ones

    • Not visible in the employee, group, or goal explorer pages, can be shown using filters

  • Ongoing (Start date is in the past and End date is in the future)

    • Can be selected when creating new Goals or editing existing ones

    • Visible in the employee, group, or goal explorer pages, can be shown using filters

  • Ended (Start and End date are in the past)

    • Can be selected when creating new Goals or editing existing ones

    • Visible in the employee, group, or goal explorer pages, can be shown using filters

  • Archived (Start and End date not relevant)

    • Cannot be selected when creating new Goals or editing existing ones

    • Not visible in the employee, group, or goal explorer pages, can be shown using filters

Admins can manage the Goal Cycles:

  • Cycles without any Goals can be edited, archived, or deleted

  • Cycles with Goals can only be edited or archived, but not deleted

  • Archived Cycles can be unarchived at any point

Goal Cycles in Journeys

You can also add Goals via Journeys in a Journey Template. To do this, navigate to Admin > Performance > Journeys > select a Journey and edit an existing template, or create a new one. Below, we have illustrated creating a new Template. Once you create a new Template step, you can then edit the Template step and add content. Here, we will add an Interactive step for Goals:

Once you click Goals, you can make it a Required component, as well as choose the Goal Cycle in which the Goal will reside.

Once you click Add to Template, you will see the Goal component in the Template. When the Journey is assigned, Employees and Managers can Add Goals to the selected Goal Cycle, when completing the Journey step.

Admins can add multiple Goal components in a single Journey Template, each with a different Cycle. They can also select Archived Cycles in case they want to show past Goals for reference.

Goal Reporting

You can download an Excel report for either your Goals or the Goals that you manage. As a regular user, you can find this via My development > Goals > Download the Goals Overview report.

As a Manager, you can see this data in Teams & People > Goals > Download.

When you download the report, you will see the following:

The Report will include the following data:

  1. Goal ID

  2. Goal Title

  3. Description of Goal

  4. Goal Cycle

  5. Start Date

  6. Due Date

  7. Progress Value

  8. Progress Status

  9. Created At date

  10. Goal Owner

  11. Goal Owner Email

  12. Owner ID

  13. Group Name

  14. Group ID

  15. Number of Parent Objectives

  16. Number of Child Objectives

  17. Number of Key Results

When you download the Report as a regular user, and not a Manager/Admin, you will only see the Goal data relevant to you. So only Goals and Goal Cycles you are assigned to.
