What are Quizzes?
Quizzes are similar to a Knowledge Check in the eloomi course builder. The main difference between the two is that Quizzes are more formal and evaluative. Whereas Knowledge Checks are not as formal and allow the creator to check in with their learners to ensure they understand the content. Quizzes empower the creator to ensure that their learners not only understand the content but that they can also apply their knowledge in practical situations, reinforcing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Below you will find a large summary of the different options within Quizzes during content creation.
Question Types
Choice Questions
With Choice Questions, you can set a question with either a single answer or multiple. You are also able to add Hints to the question as well.
To add a Hint, simply look to the right of the screen when you are editing the question. There, you will see the option to add a hint.
It is important to note that Quiz Questions and Knowledge Checks are two different things that are both similar in function. The key difference between the two is that Knowledge checks are used only by admins as a way to ensure that the learner is truly learning the subject matter.
Unlike the Quiz Questions, they are always submitted one by one, people can retry answering them until they are correct, and there is no score result for them.
Admins on the platform have no access to these answers and the answers are not included in any sort of reporting.
Rating Scale
The Rating Scale allows you to set a slider as a question, here people can select a numerical value to answer the question asked.
You can modify the number of rating steps on the right of the screen under Rating Settings
Keep in mind that the rating scale maxes out at 10.
Open Text
Open text allows a person to provide their own answer to a question, rather than just selecting a choice.
Keep in mind that when you are creating the course, the “Type your answer here...” will not save your data as it is just a placeholder box to show what the person will see on their side.
Page Settings
You can get to this menu by clicking the “Settings” button at the bottom of the screen.
Keep in mind that page settings will be visible once at least one Quiz element is added to the page.
Shuffle answer choices
Toggling this option will shuffle the answer choices in any multiple/single-choice questions.
Passing score
Passing score allows the creator to set either a Percentage or Question amount threshold for a passing score on the course.
People will see what the passing score is when they start the quiz.
Points as passing score
Assign points to individual questions to define a weighted scoring of correct answers and the number of total points to pass.
Reveal answers
Reveal answers will allow the person to see the correct/incorrect answers after they complete the quiz.
Time Limit
This allows the creator to set a time limit for the quiz in minutes. The person is notified of this time limit before they take the quiz, and will be tracked on this time as soon as they confirm to start the quiz.
A quiz will automatically be submitted if/when the time runs out.
Upload Files to Quizzes
You now also have the option to give your people the ability to upload files in the quiz. Here are the steps:
Navigate to: Admin > Learning > New > Build course:
Click Add page then click Add content
Scroll down on the Content blocks window and click Upload file:
Once added, you will see that the maximum file size that can be uploaded is 20 MB:
Note that the link "click to upload" only works when clicked by the assigned people and will not do anything in the course builder.
Reporting
Course Report
You can find the Course Report by navigating to Reports > Courses > Then find your course.
Once you find your course, you should see this screen below. This just shows the basic outline of the course report. You can click “Full report” to see more details.
Clicking the “Full Report” button will show this menu below.
Keep in mind that these options that appear will differ depending on what you have added to the course. A quiz element must be added, if not, then the option to view the report will not appear and the options below will not appear either.
Key Numbers Section: This section reviews the overall metrics of the course and some basic information.
Questions Section: This section of the report will break down the questions in the course, and the responses to the questions. (Questions being the Multiple/Single choice, Rating Scale, and Open Text options we reviewed earlier in the article). Each section under the “Questions” section, will house the 3 different question types we can apply to our quizzes.
Download Report
You can download the full report to an Excel file by clicking the “Download Report” button at the top right of the screen.
The Full Report will include data regarding the Summary, Responses, and Attempts for the quiz or quizzes within the module.
You can see at the bottom of the generated file that there are different tabs, each of these is pulled from the module itself and covers the data from the quiz.
People
The people section at the bottom of the screen displays the data regarding any person who has taken the course or is assigned to the course.
Focus mode
Focus mode allows you to change the view of the people table to focus on either the Learning data or the Quiz & Knowledge data.
Learning Mode
Learning mode will show you basically the same information as you were seeing before selecting a mode.
As you can see, it shows the different metrics here such as, Status, Time Spent on the course, when the course was started and completed, the deadline (if there is one) and if it is required or not. (In this case, it is not required, however, if it was the icon would be green)
Quiz & Knowledge Mode
Quiz & Knowledge mode will show you the metrics based on the Quiz in the course. It outlines some different information than the Learning mode. Here you can see the time spent on the course as well as the quiz. Additionally, you can see the number of attempts each person has taken and their first attempt score vs the score needed for completion.
Download Report
You can download the user report with this button in the photo below. This will download the Excel file with the raw data from the platform.
