Managing Skills and Job Titles
To get started with Skills, you must first create Job Titles in your platform. To do this, go to Admin > Organization > Job Titles.
Click the button New in the top right corner of the page to create a new Job Title.
Upon creating a new Job Title, when adding the name it will save automatically. The default status will be Pending review, and you can either Review it right away or return to do it at a later point in time.
For each Job Title, we suggest you add associated Skills from the Lightcast library. For example, a Copywriter may be assigned Skills such as Marketing, Communications, and Detail Oriented.
Once you are satisfied with the Skills attached to the Job Title, you must approve it by changing the status to Reviewed.
As an Admin, you may encounter a banner in the top bar of the page under Admin > Organization > Job Titles named Missing reviews.
This will show you all Job Titles that were created but have yet to be marked Reviewed.
Clicking View Pending Titles in this banner will apply a filter in you list of Job Titles illustrating all Job Titles in your platform that are currently missing reviews. You can review them in bulk or one by one by clicking on the status Pending and changing it to Reviewed.
To update the Job Title status in bulk, select the Job Titles in question and navigate to the icon below the top bar to change the status to Reviewed.
Once you have Job Titles set up, assign them to your people. This connects Employees to the active Skills database to provide an organizational overview and enable personal Skills development.
IMPORTANT! You are not required to create all Job Titles within your organization in one go. We suggest you add Job Titles to your platform on an ongoing basis.
Assign Job Titles to your Employees via Admin > Organization > People.
Similarly to the Job Titles, you may also encounter a banner in the top bar of the page under Admin > Organization > People named People Missing Job Titles:
Clicking View users in this banner will apply a filter in your User list illustrating all Users in your platform that currently do not have a Job Title assigned to their profile.
You can then edit the Users who are missing Job Titles by adding them with the steps described above.
Ensuring all Users in your platform have a Job Title assigned to their profile will in turn enable you to ensure all Users are associated with the right Skills.
Connecting Skills with Content
To connect Skills with relevant Courses, browse the Courses available on your platform and add Skills to them, allowing Managers to direct learning and empowering people to plan their next steps in Skills development.
Add Skills to Courses via Admin > Learning > Courses.
Adding Skills to Learning plans, is a very similar process to Courses. Here, you must navigate to Admin > Learning > Learning plans > Edit the plan, then add the Skills with the + Add skills button.
Clicking this button will bring up the menu to add Skills. You can filter for Hard skills, Soft skills, and Certifications.
Remember, a user must be granted access to a Course or Learning plan either by making it Open for Self-enrollment or by assigning the user to the content. You can manage the enrollment settings and/or assignments via Admin > Learning > Courses/Learning plans.
Upon logging in, people will be prompted to define the Skills they currently have as well as the Skills they want to have. This can include job-specific Skills, as well as aspirational goals and hidden talents for development.
This information will allow you to find out in which direction your people want to develop and whether you have content on the platform that will help them develop the indicated Skills.
Skills Reporting
Find out exactly which Skills your employees want to develop most with Skills reporting. Get an instant overview of the Skills within your organization, see real-time learning progress, and connect to content needed to bridge skill gaps.
See your Skills overview via Reports > Skills:
In addition to a comprehensive in-platform report on an organizational level, Admins can check the progress of individual people and their Skills development to track targets and provide personalized feedback.
Check individual progress via Reports > People:
